On November 1, 2019, the third single from Bethel Music's eleventh live album, Victory (2019), "Goodness of God" by Jenn Johnson and Bethel Music was made available. Ed Cash, Ben Fielding, Jason Ingram, Brian Johnson, and Jenn Johnson all contributed to the song's composition. The single's production was handled by Ed Cash.

At its highest point on the US Hot Christian Songs list, "Goodness of God" at No. 15. The song was a nominee for Worship Recorded Song of the Year at the 2020 GMA Dove Awards.

CeCe Winans made a notable cover of the song and included it on her live album, Believe For It (2021). The song by CeCe Winans reached its highest position on the Hot Christian Songs list at No. 6 and the Hot Gospel Songs chart at No. 3. At the 2022 GMA Dove Awards, CeCe Winans' version of "Goodness of God" was nominated for Contemporary Gospel Recorded Song of the Year.

As one of four promotional songs for Victory (2019), which was set to be released on January 25, 2019, "Goodness of God" was first made available by Bethel Music on January 4, 2019. According to Jenn Johnson, who spoke with Fox News, the process of adopting her fourth kid served as the inspiration for the song, which she had been impromptu singing into her phone as she traveled down a long country road. The spontaneous recording was later used to create the song.

On November 1, 2019, the radio version of "Goodness of God" was made available digitally. On November 8, 2019, the song was played on Christian radio stations.

On November 15, 2019, Bethel Music published the song's instrumental version on their album Without Words: Genesis. On their second studio album, Peace, Bethel Music also released a different version of the song on April 10, 2020.
